Therapeutic Massage

“Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.” - Hippocrates

Therapeutic Massage is a method using focused, slow-paced pressure to effect deeper layers of soft tissue.  The session is not a general full body session; it is a session during which the therapist directs attention to specific areas causing soft tissue pain and dysfunction.  Optimal pressure is determined by client preference and therapist skill, experience and judgement.  Therapeutic Massage is very effective for everyone from athletes, musicians, office workers that sit at their desk in static positions for hours or even new moms that carry their children.

Relaxation Massage

“If a man insisted on always being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it.” - Herodotus

A Relaxation Massage is a general session with little or no focus on specific areas.  Its primary intention is to create a quiet mini-retreat to relax muscles, soothe the tired body and mind.  It is a refreshing experience that relieves the body of stress.

Thai Yoga Bodywork/Nuad Boran

"Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness." -Edward Stanley

Thai Massage is sometimes called Lazy Man’s Yoga because of the yoga-like poses which the massage therapist passively guides your body into.  The stretching performed during a Thai yoga session is “dance-like” yet requires you to expend no energy of your own.  You simply lie on the mat while the practitioner gently pulls, folds, and presses your body using his or her own body weight, legs, and arms to enhance the stretch.   You will soon find how wonderful it is as you relax into a stretch in a more effective manner.

There should be no pain as the practitioner feels when your body cannot go further.  Some clients have found the experience trance-inducing if you have a good practitioner.  So what are the benefits?  To name a few and starting with the most obvious, range of motion and flexibility is increased.  Thai Massage also reduces stress & discomfort, increases blood & lymphatic circulation.  Additionally, it can also be meditatively relaxing.

Thai Yoga Massage is performed one-on-one and a full-body treatment session can last anywhere from 90 minutes to 2 1/2 hours.

Unlike traditional massage, Thai Yoga Massage requires you to be fully clothed, wearing loose, comfortable clothing, while lying on a thin futon mat on the floor. Yoga clothing is ideal.

**Thai yoga bodywork available for 90- and 120-minute sessions ONLY.**

Deep Feet Bar Therapy (Ashiatsu)

AOBT™ (Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy) is often described as “the deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet.”  “Ashi” means foot in Japanese and “atsu” means pressure.  The therapist will use soft, clean feet to apply deep, flowing strokes while you comfortably relax on a massage table.  It is an adaptation of an ancient form of barefoot massage using deep compression effleurage gliding over the body.  Gravitational force is combined with centrifugal and centripetal movements to bring about a structural change in chronic soft tissue tension patterns.  Correct application will provide deep relaxation and stimulate the lymphatic system of the body.  Bars are used above the table for the therapist’s balance.

AOBT™ is NOT for everyone...if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, just had a baby, have a serious health condition, had a recent surgery (including Lasik), we regret that you cannot receive a session at this time.  Due to the intense nature of this modality, certain health conditions may be potentially harmful so please check in with your therapist.

In addition, you may be sore and “spacey” after the session, so plan accordingly.

Signature Stone Massage

“Yesterday I took time out from all the hustle and bustle of the busy season and gave

myself a gift of two hours of quiet time.  I had a therapeutic massage and hot stone

treatment.” - J.F.

A Signature hot stone massage involves smooth old river stones that are heated and

placed on the body, inducing deep relaxation and healing as an adjunct to massage.  Massage therapy induces relaxation and reduces stress. Stone massage induces a sense of renewal of peace - who doesn't need that? Muscles are pre-treated with the heated stones to allow the therapist to more easily perform massage at a deeper level of tissue. Cool stones are sometimes used alternately with hot stones.  Massage oils are usually incorporated into the massage treatment.

Some benefits of hot stone massage include: promote deep muscle and tissue relaxation, alleviate stress, releases toxins, relieves pain, improves circulation, calms the psyche.

Health conditions treated with hot stone massage include: muscular aches and pains, back pain, MS, arthritis, fibromyalgia, stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
